These were quite literally my first attempt at HDR images. Being the sucker for punishment that I am I went out and found spots that were representative of my experience of Albuquerque, but did so around sundown so that I could find absolutely extreme variations between light and dark.

I wanted to push HDR to the limit, exposing both dark shadows and the sun itself in a single frame.

These were harder than you would think to capture. They were made with a scanner and a carefully aimed, very bright floodlight. The trick is to aim the floodlight just right so that its light comes into the scanner from behind. Otherwise you'll get a black background with the lid open.

I took these behind the Denny's near my house. Believe it or not I took them in the dead of night, handheld, with an old Panasonic Lumix superzoom.

I was severely under-equipped for this kind of situation, but think I did an awesome job anyway.

Taken at the Obama political rally in October 2008. It was quite a time, that rally, I've never seen so many friendly people in one place at one time. It was incredible.
